Hintok River Camp is located far into Kanchanaburi province on the road towards the Myanmar border. The camp is a so-called glamping place. The tents you can rent here are equipped with all types of comfort such as air conditioning and your own bathrooms. With the air-conditioning it is very comfortable to sleep in the tents.
The tents are grouped around a small field. This field is used in the evening to setup a buffet dinner. Oil lamps provide a nice atmosphere. In the morning monks come to the site giving people the opportunity to give alms to the monks. Breakfast is served in the small restaurant that offers a nice view over the river.
The camping area is located high above the river – Khwae Noi. From next to the restaurant a small path leads down to the river where you will find a small pool as well as a deck that also serves as a starting point for various activities and trips. These trips can be booked at the campsite office. From here we took a day tour with a long tail boat to a Mon village. After a visit to the village we switched to a raft and we continued further downstream to have lunch at the River Kwai Resotel from the same owner as the Hintok River Camp. After lunch we took the long-tail boat to return to the glamping site.
While staying here it is highly recommended to also visit the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum and learn about the WW2 history of this area.
Location
You will need to have proper transport to get here, either with your own transport or, as most tourist do, with a van from a travel agency. A short ride past the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum you take a turn to the left and follow a local road steep down to the river area. You find the exact location on Google Maps.
